A bat attempted to fly into space on the shuttle Discovery. NASA has pictures of the bat clinging to the external fuel tank until they lost sight of the shuttle in the atmosphere. The "NASA officials signed a waiver confirming that the bat was safe to fly with" since there was concern the animal's body might damage the heat-shield tiles during take-off.
Pretty safe bet that it is one bat that is no more.
