BBC Reading List - more than 6?

Have you read more than 6 of these books? The BBC believes most people will have read only 6 of the 100 books listed here (not sure where the "6 books" part of this originated, because I can't find it on the web and it's not The Big Read List, that's a different list). Bold those books you've read in their entirety, italicize the ones you started but didn't finish or read an excerpt. (Note to self: remember to tag people when this uploads on FB; also, I think I've done this before but can't find the original post)

Well....
14 = the number I haven't read at all
10 = the number I haven't finished
76 = the number I have read
* = something tells me the BBC hasn't actually done this list since there are duplicates; if you've read all of Shakespeare you've read Hamlet and if you've read The Chronicles of Narnia you've read The Lion,, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
+ = the likelihood of me actually reading this book is "nil"

  1. This just seems like a list cobbled together from various other "100 Must Read" lists, but just happens to include a couple contemporary "classics" (where the "classics" part is quite questionable...). What with a good chunk of the books listed children's classics and required reading, it also seems quite unlikely that most people have read only 6. There are many odd things about this list. I wouldn't take it too seriously...

  2. While yes, if you've read all of Shakespeare you've read Hamlet, it doesn't work the other way around. I've read Hamlet, but I'm far from having read all of Shakespeare. I've read "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," but WOW was "Prince Caspian" dull, so I quit after that one.

  3. Well done! I'm at 71 and definitely want to read many of the ones left on my list.
